Questions

Straight answers.

It can be a subset of one, scoped to what you actually need. Full MES programmes are long and expensive; most manufacturers get the majority of the value from reliable capture of a few things plus immediate visibility.

That is usually the right approach. The ERP keeps its role and we build the operational layer around it, integrated so data is entered once.

Manual or semi-automated capture at the line is a legitimate answer and often the pragmatic starting point. Machine integration can follow where it earns its cost.

Only if it is quicker than the clipboard. Interfaces are designed for gloves, poor light and interruption, and tested with the people who will use them.
